Cooley is seeking a Digital Workplace & Collaboration Technology Manager to join the Technology Platforms & Applications team.

Position summary: Cooley Technology embraces a culture of customer service excellence, and all members of the department are expected to move this agenda forward. To that end, The Digital Workplace & Collaboration Technology Manager will lead the strategy, architecture, technical and operational execution of the firm’s digital workplace platforms, with a focus on Microsoft 365 digital workplace and collaboration solutions. This role is responsible for shaping how the firm designs, governs, and optimizes Microsoft 365 collaboration and digital workplace solutions for effective use and adoption. The manager will provide both hands-on technical depth and strategic oversight, balancing immediate operational needs with long-term planning. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position responsibilities:

Platform Ownership & Strategy

  • Serve as the technical and operational owner for Microsoft 365–based collaboration and digital workplace platforms including Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Exchange Online, and other solutions as deemed necessary for the firm’s Digital Workplace strategy
  • Manage the licensing of Microsoft 365 collaboration and digital workplace technologies
  • Define and maintain the architectural standards, governance models, and best practices for Microsoft 365 collaboration and digital workplace solutions to ensure effective adoption and safe use of these platforms
  • Own the Microsoft 365 collaboration and digital workplace roadmap, aligning platform evolution with firm business needs and Digital Workplace Strategy

Governance & Compliance

  • Partner with security and information governance teams to ensure all solutions meet firm and regulatory standards
  • Establish and maintain governance frameworks for site and team provisioning, information architecture, permissions and access models, content lifecycle and retention

Technical Leadership

  • Establish and maintain technical playbooks, documentation standards, and operational procedures
  • Define and support a Tier 3 (T3) escalation model, while enabling effective knowledge transfer to Tier 1 and Tier 2 support teams to reduce unnecessary escalations
  • Oversee Exchange Online configuration as it relates to collaboration, calendaring, shared mailboxes, and M365 Groups
  • Coordinate development and delivery efforts across internal and external technical teams
  • Act as an escalation point for complex system issues, performance tuning, and platform troubleshooting

Team Leadership

  • Set technical direction, standards, and priorities for the team
  • Serve as subject matter expert for Microsoft 365 collaboration technologies
  • Serve as direct supervisor and mentor to direct reports
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of direct reports, ensure compliance with assigned work hours and monitor for compliance with all firm and department policies. Manage staffing coverage, review and process time logs/time off requests
  • Support business professional development and continued educational opportunities
  • In collaboration with immediate supervisor and central HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills and experience:

Required:

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
  • Ability to travel, as required
  • 5+ years applicable experience in the field (e.g., enterprise architecture, solution design, and/or digital workplace engineering). Senior level candidates considered with 7+ years applicable experience.
  • Deep technical expertise in Microsoft 365 collaboration platforms, including Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Outlook/Exchange Online, and other M365 solutions
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 governance, environment management, and licensing models

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience driving adoption and user enablement of Microsoft 365 collaboration platforms and digital workplace technologies
  • Understanding of identity management, data compliance, and information security in cloud environments
  • Familiarity with Copilot, Microsoft Graph, and collaboration analytics
  • Background in information architecture and enterprise content management
  • Experience partnering with security, information governance, and infrastructure teams in regulated environments
  • Experience leading technical staff, cross-functional teams and managing external development partners

The expected annual pay range for this position with a full-time schedule is $120,000 - $175,000. Senior level candidates may be considered for this position and would be eligible for a higher salary range based on experience. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
